TCL1 and CLA expression in agranular CD4/CD56 hematodermic neoplasms (blastic NK-cell lymphomas) and leukemia cutis.

Agranular CD4/CD56 hematodermic neoplasm (CD4/CD56 HN), also termed blastic natural killer cell lymphoma, is characterized by a peculiar immunophenotype and high skin tropism. The lineage of origin is not known, and a plasmacytoid dendritic cell derivation has been proposed. CD4/CD56 HN generally is diagnosed by using tumor skin biopsy, with the most important differential diagnosis being myelo...

Primary cutaneous blastic natural killer cell lymphoma.

Sir, Blastic natural killer-cell lymphoma, also called “agranular CD4+ CD56+ haematodermic neoplasm” is an uncommon type of tumour, which is included in the new World Health Organization (WHO) classification as a malignancy derived from natural killer (NK) cells. It is very aggressive, affecting many organs, and skin involvement is highly characteristic. Several origins have been proposed, but ...

OBJECTIVE To study the clinical and pathologic features of 4 cases of the so-called blastic natural killer (NK)-cell lymphoma, with reference to the 2008 WHO classification of tumours of haematopoietic and lymphoid tissues. METHODS The clinical, pathologic and immunohistochemical findings (EliVision method) of 4 cases of blastic NK-cell lymphoma (previously diagnosed according to the 2001 WHO...

Blastic NK-Cell Leukemia / Lymphoma

Blastic natural killer (NK) cell lymphoma / leukemia is a rare NK cell malignancy of unknown etiology. It occurs in multiple sites and with a propensity for skin involvement. We report such a case in a 35-year-old male suffering from erythematous and purpuric papules and plaques on his face and trunk for 6 months. A biopsy specimen of the skin showed diffuse infiltration of blastlike lymphoid c...

CD56+/CD4+ lymphomas and leukemias are morphologically, immunophenotypically, cytogenetically, and clinically diverse.

CD56, a neural adhesion molecule, is a marker of natural killer (NK) lymphocytes as well as a subgroup of CD8+ T cells. Normal lymphocytes with a CD56/CD4 phenotype are scarce. Physiologic increases may occur in patients with immunosuppression, chronic inflammation, and autoimmune disorders. We report 4 cases of lymphomas/leukemias with the unusual CD56/CD4 phenotype. Two were of T-cell and 2 o...
